Application of S45C Steel Rapid Tempering and Quenching Process

S45C steel is widely used in machinery manufacturing. S45C carbon steel is a kind of commonly used medium carbon tempered structural steel, like S45C carbon steel square bar. Normalizing can improve the cutting performance of less than 160 HBS blanks. After the steel is quenched and tempered, its comprehensive mechanical properties are superior to other medium carbon structural steel. Quenching and tempering treatment is a common heat treatment process for S45C steel. To this end, we have studied S45C steel quenching and tempering process.
The mechanical properties of the quenched and tempered parts subjected to rapid tempering were tested for hardness of 27 times on different sections of 55 mm effective thickness. The maximum hardness difference was 9 HB units and the uniformity was good.
The following items should be noted in the process specification:
Firstly, the capping temperature should be strictly controlled and no heat preservation is allowed.
Secondly, the holding time of the conventional zone is determined by the amount of the load and the effective size.
Thirdly, the loading capacity is 1/2 to 3/4 of the furnace floor, and there must be a certain gap between the work.
Fast tempering has the following advantages.
Fristly, it can meet technical requirements and it’s stable without any investment and expenses.
Secondly, each furnace can save electricity by 30.9% to 44%.
Thirdly, the fast tempering process can shorten the time by more than 20%.
Forth, the process is simple. It’s easy to be mastered and promoted.
